SIT - 9

May 18th - June 19th, 2010

In the eastern parts of the world 9 is a lucky number. To SIT it means new found luck. It was a strange encounter with a goldfish in Hong Kong that made him feel lucky again. Lost in the dark realms of this city his heart bleeding from a broken relationship and his vision blurred by cheap Chinese whisky SIT stumbled across a goldfish with enormous eyes in a shop window. Hypnotized by this eerie image he saw this goldfish transform into a 9 and heard a deep voice whispering 'follow number 9 and luck will come your way again'. In the wake of this story his wallet was gone of course but knew he had struck gold. A better tomorrow was on its way. Those familiar with SIT know this story could only happen to a joyful and free spirit like him. Currently residing in Sao Paulo, Brasil he masterminded 9 exclusive works paying hommage to his new lucky charm, the goldfish. Where black has turned into gold and life has a better tomorrow. Jinyu to all of you. " 9 " exhibition is a cultural event sponsored by the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Hong Kong. ... more

The Ironic Side of Dark Paper Dreams

February 4th - February 24th, 2010

Multitasking human beings, bizarre creatures and protean objects, are melted together in extremely surreal and dark atmospheres, built through a complex mechanism of mind and an almost obsessive attention to detail. These are some of the basic ingredients of absurd situations, full of hidden meanings, of the eccentric artworks by Luca Loiudice. The young visual artist, born in Italy in 1984, creates a mix between real and surreal, with his own visionary style influenced by cartoons, surrealism and lowbrow art movement. After several exhibitions in Europe, Australia and United States, the artist presents his work at the Hong Kong audience with his first solo exhibition in Asia: The ironic side of dark paper dreams. ... more

Doug Bartlett - I HAve Crazy

January 8th - January 29th, 2010

Doug Bartlett is the name given to the energy created when Nick Morris and Dave Bowers work together on the same canvas. "We open up the roller door to the garage in Torquay and let rip. With a few beers, and the music turned up, we throw ourselves into the canvases. Slabs of colour are slapped down haphazardly and images are layered on at random. A lot of this initial work won't survive the painting process because we have a rule that says: 'you can paint over anything, and the other one can't protest'. Whole vistas appear and disappear. Hours of work can be swept away with one brutal sweep of a brush. 'Doug has entered the building' is the only explanation required. ... more

The past is gone and the future is not here yet. We are in the moment. We are here. We catch moments and we keep them fresh. But how can you catch the presence? How other than in your memory can you preserve it? We invented cameras, we take pictures. We invented Ziploc bags. We invented cling foil to keep things fresh. Will a picture keep what you experienced in that moment other than your own memory about what you felt in that moment? If it can not, then are you here enough to catch and keep the moment in your memory? ... more
